Lachen
At Chungthang where the route dissects, one curls up to Lachung, while the other mounts up to Lachen Village. Lachen is situated at an altitude of 2750m on the road leading to famous Gurudongmar Lake. the distance is 125 km from Gangtok. The settlement of Bhutia tribe in this area dates back to the 16th century. Village still practice Dzumsa syste, a similar system to modern Panchayats in India.
For tourists, government guest house and budget hotels are also available, in the day time one can visit local monastery, Dzumsa a Cottage Industries Centre, or just go for a long trek to Green Lake and enjoy the flora and fauna at Lachen, Thangu and Chopta Valley.
