Deed of Grant
Translation of the Deed of Grant making over Darjeeling to the East India Company dated 29th Maugh, Sambat 1891AD. (1st February 1835).
The Governor General having expressed his desire of the possession of the Hill of Darjeeling, on account of its cool climate, for the purpose of enabling the servants of his Government, suffering from sickness, to avail themselves of its advantage, I, the Sikkimputtee Raja, out of friendship to the said Governor-General, hereby present Darjeeling to the East India Company, that is, all the land South of the Great Rangeet River, east of the Balasur, Kahail, and little Rangeet Rivers, and West of Rungno and Mahanadi Rivers.
