I too endorse ur views....
I believe the present Gorkhaland movement is more a political than an ethnic movement of eighties with every section of society supporting the cause.
I see things turning out in Darjeeling as positive steps as people going Gandhain-way unlike violent in 80s .Now people understands the need of separate state.Good thing is that every people of Darjeeling say ,biharis, muslims,Tibetans, bengalis n other plain-people living permanently and lepchas n bhutias of kalimpong side (who celebrates Sikkimese Loosong) all unanimously supports this current Gorkhaland movement making it more inevitably political revolution rather than limiting it to an ethnic revolution of 80s.

Message is loud n clear....hill people is asking not for the country but for a separate state for better self-rule called Gorkhaland within the constitutional framework..which is far away from Kolkata-centrism and away from Left-imperilistic Government.

Hope Sikkim Government supports

indeed! in this age of mass media and IT, bengal government can not force people to abandon their legitimate right to gorkhaland like they did before.. sure everyone knows about the killings of innocents .. and the the demand of siliguri is also legitimate.. cos siliguri was never part of bengal.. it was part of Sikkim.

bengla - gorkha bhai bhai... gorkhaland chai chai...

The Bengal Govt and the hill council led by Mr Ghising has utterly failed. THe people of the hills were not allowed to exercise their democratic right to vote for many years. They were ruled by proxy. Democracy means self rule: of the people by the people and for the people. Why should any part of the country be denied self rule. Ruling the Darjeeling hills from Kolkatta does not make sense when the population and the place is etnically, culturally, linguistically, economically demographicllly, geographically, climatically sooooo... differtent. While the Constitution of India guarentees equal oppertunities to all How can U accept a cat ruling the land of rats?

Sorry, I do not have in depth information on the political situation of Darjeeling, but from what I had heard, Subhash Ghilsingh's opponent Gurung has gotten popular support recently due primarily to his support for Prashant Tamang, whereas Ghilsingh showed little interest, is that accurate, and sorry if the names are wrong.

Also, I have seen those videos of police beating up the Gurkhas, the cops are acting more like the Chinese police. Anyhow, it puzzles me how a Communist government can run a state in a country that is Democratic. I don't know what your views are on Communism, but I certainly think Communism should be outlawed in a Democratic society. When I was in Siliguri few years ago, it kind of left me afraid and disgusted to see the old Soviet emblems.

I feel that the media should be also be blamed to an extent. Nothing about Sikkim gets reported. I dont know if this is a concious decision or just a careless one. We had a prestigious International Florishow recently but no news channel covered the event.

So whether there is a bandh in 31A or we starve or fight among each other or we die, I dont think anyone's bothered. Which is a sad plight to be in. My sympathies to the people demanding Gorkhaland. I personally feel that it should be granted.
Just because I have a short attention span doesn't mean I
