Football: Pradhan to play for AI-Mumbai

Gangtok, Oct. 16 (PTI): Sanju Pradhan, a promising football player from Sikkim, has been appointed on a one-year contract by Air India, Mumbai to play for the side, Sikkim Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, P S Goley, told reporters here on Sunday.

"It is a golden opportunity for Sanju to hone his skills and perform in prestigious tournaments outside the state," Goley said.

Pradhan, who has been part of the India Under-14 and -17 squads in several international tournaments will first play in the Mumbai leagues and then play for Air India in the Federation and Durand Cup tournaments, Air India Coach Bimal Ghosh said.

He has been selected on the basis of his impressive performance in the ongoing Governor's Gold Cup football tournament here, Ghosh said.

Pradhan is currently playing for Sikkim Sports Academy in the tournament.

Commenting on his selection by the Air India team Pradhan said it was a big occasion for to play for a prestigious team like Air India.

"It will give me exposure and an opportunity to improve my skills," he said.

baichung is not enough now. we would like to see pradhan in english premier league in next three years. good luck pradhan and let me give you a word of encouragement " when the going gets tough the tough gets going". cheerssss
