Prashant Tamang fate in Indian Idol

Prashant Tamang, a “Sidha Sada” Guy next door from Darjeeling hills now stands in Indian Idol top 12 position. It has been the joyous moment for all his fans around the country.

But Prashant Tamang who constantly comes to the Danger Zone, has some really tough time ahead, Cellular subscribers in Darjeeling & Kalimpong complaining about their SMSes not being delivered timely by local cellular service providers puts Prashant Tamang into a risky situation, cos these area plays major role for him in Indian Idol.

Finalist such as Emon Chatterjee, Deepali, Puja, Meiyang Chang are also really good singers, and could be Prashant’s “pain in the ass”.

Emon Chatterjee : The only guy in Indian Idol, Sings really really tough notes, and he is one of the favorites of Judges, as well as whole Indian Citizen.

Meiyang Chang : This Chinese dude, dentist by profession and whose fore father came to India, is the one who is gaining popularity in every show, could be Prashant’s greatest rival.

Puja Chhaterjee : This 18 Year old girl is another tough contender. Her soft voice is second to none.

I would want Prashant to win eventually.. AND,
I can bet that Prashant is going to win!
I love all 3 voices…but what i admire most abt Prashant is that he is not a trained vocalist or singer, and despite severe criticism from the judges, he is calm, he has improved a great deal in singing and his performance, no big drama and tears and no extreme emotion like all other drama kings n queens of indian idol 3 top 10′s. He is naively innocent, one singer whose voice makes our hearts melt. General people love his nature, his smile, and are appreciating his efforts.
They know that he is the one who can excel far better if given the opportunity.
Despite all the inside politics going through SONY and what not ( they tried all possible ways to let his popularity down because they want a POP sensation to market their sales.. someone like Emon, who is good looking, and Ankita, who is a solid performer: They made Prashant act like a security guard so that his own fans would turn him down, failed to mention his code and didnt even mention that SMS code is changed after his perfomance in 10th gala, religion/region n nationality biased judges who do not see how far he has come or has achieved but instead try pulling his leg .. etc), it is his soothing voice, gentle nature and carefree attitude that allure the general people! It is not true that only people from his region or his local people are voting for him enormously. The whole of india has this opportunity to choose their IDOL. They have chosen him so far because of these rare qualities that the other contestants do not possess and not just because only the people from Darjeeling or police force or his fans are voting for him enormously.
If given the time and opportunity and even 2/5th of the vocal training that Emon or Amit had, Prashant can become the no. 1 singer in India…
I personally feel that his voice reminds me of kumar sanu and that I feel that i would not miss kumar sanu that much when I listent to him.

    THanks for reading…
    Jay Hind!

On the episode telecasted on September 15, 2007, in the first round of songs, Prashant misses a word from his song which he mumbles and does not sing out clearly. All the judges except Udit Narayan comment sharply against Prashant. Javed Akhtar (commercial Urdu poet who writes for Hindi movies) goes as far as saying that he would like to cheer him with “once more” as long as he does not sing the song correctly. In second song, both the contestants sing well but the other contestant gets standing ovation from the judges who claim him to be “Indian Idol” at least for the judges. Alisa Chennoi goes as far as saying that she is voting for the other contestant. No judge is supposed to support or promote any contestant as a part of rules of any fair game on earth. The program hosts announce that the third song will be the deciding song as for the very first time both the singers will be singing the same song. In this song, the other contestant completely forgets the opening lines. He simply mumbles 5 starting lines of the song. He sings flat and can not recover even with the remaining parts of the song. By convention, a performer is supposed to finish the song, who is then judged by the judges and then after a commercial break, the other performer performs his/her song. However, seeing this pathetic condition of his friend (all the judges gave a shocked look), Prashant comes to stage and helps him with a few lines. As the other contestant does not recover even after that, Prashant sings the song (he was supposed to sing the song after the judge’s verdict and after a commercial break) and somehow maintains the poise of the program. After he finishes the song, Javed Akhtar says that the other contestant missing out a whole stanza equates Prashant missing a word, similar comment is bestowed by Alica Chennoi. Before Udit Narayan even finishes his comment, the female host quickly says that Udit Narayan has forgiven both. Anu Mallik tried to interrupt the bias but the host interrupted him saying that its time for commercial break. After the commercial break, Anu Mallik finally commented that the other contestant had done a terrible singing and that the judges should not take sides. Judges should from their side should be objective. Other judges show little intent of correcting and/or reflecting their mistakes. Anu Mallik raised the very valid question that was so apparent in previous episodes of INDIAL IDOL which is No matter how good Prashant sang the other judges and the guests did not appreciate his singing, why? Why is it so hard for the people to admit that Prashant Tamang is an extremely talented singer?

This reflects a valid concern that has been raised ever since whether the organizers will go with the POPULAR CHOICE or interfere with the actual decision like the biased presentation.
