Interview with blogger Rinchen Dorjee
I am a 29 year old woman from Sikkim, a state in the north eastern part of India. I’ve been blogging for about a year now. I like to write about my life as it happens, the things I do that seem so ridiculous to me that it has to be blogged about to be believed.
Would you please tell us something about you and your site?
I write about the life of a 29 year old whose greatest fears are growing older, losing her ability to write funny blog posts and why her dog is the best. Humour is an important part of my blog. But I guess thats because thats the only way I know how to write!
Do you feel that you continue to grow in your writing the longer you write? Why is that important to you?
Yes, I do. I’ve become more open to ideas since there’s always one reader who disagrees with me no matter how hard I try to make it clear that this is my opinion and you should accept it too!
Anyways, one does gain a newer perspective since you’re communicating with your readers. So I’m grateful for that. Otherwise, I’d remain a stubborn writer who doesnt know anything better.
I’m wondering what some of your memorable experiences are with blogging?
Oh, I’m always walking down memory lane with friends on my blog. Some of my old pals and me reminisce about what used to happen way back then and so on. I’m trying to say that there are too many memorable experiences to state so far. Its been a nice roller coaster ride till date.
What do you do in order to keep up your communication with other bloggers?
I use the comment box! Other than that, I drop a comment in their respective blogs and we sometimes take the conversation to gtalk or facebook. And email’s always there.
What do you think is the most exciting or most innovative use of technology in politics right now?
Umm… Electronic polling booths? I’m sorry I dont know any other technology to name them. But this one itself is a life saver.I remember my dad (who used to work for the government) being called away for election duties at strange hours of the night when I was small. That saves people a lot of work, doesnt it?
Do you think that these new technologies are effective in making people more responsive?
Strangely enough, some people are just too lazy to vote. I dont know if these new technologies are enough. Then again, some of them are too ignorant also to use them. I guess we’re back to square one.
But seriously, voting isnt your right; its your duty.
What do you think sets Your site apart from others?
Something does? I have no clue! My reader could probably answer it better but you’ll have to find them first.
If you could choose one characteristic you have that brought you success in life, what would it be?
Doing my own thing and living life as I want. I’ve been independent and outgoing most of the time so I’ve been able to do a lot of things I truly wanted in life.
What was the happiest and gloomiest moment of your life?
They’re too personal to share but every human goes through both and so have I.
If you could pick a travel destination, anywhere in the world, with no worries about how it’s paid for - what would your top 3 choices be?
Oh wow. I hope thats something that’s happen in real life too! I’d like to visit Europe, far east maybe Japan and Disneyland! I’ve been a big Daisy Duck fan when I was little. Of course when I’m there, I’d like to check out the casinos in LA. Thats another thing I’d like to try my hand at.
What is your favorite book and why?
Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery. I read it when I was a child and felt very touch by the story of an orphaned girl child who’s brought up by a strict spinster who learns to love back in return. The book’s now about a hundred years old yet still touches one’s heart to the core.
What’s the first thing you notice about a person (whether you know them or not)?
Their self confidence. Their eye contact, body language, how they respond to others around them. You can tell so much from just a glance.
Is there anyone from your past that once told you you couldn’t write?
No. In fact, my English teacher used to encourage me all the time. I never took her seriously and opted for a different career instead. Now, I blog in my free time and when I feel particularly indignant about something.
How bloggers can benefit from blogs financially?
By placing ads in their blogs. Also, if they catch someone’s eye and get invited to write for them. This one famous blogger just released her first book. I think its encouraging to other bloggers (like me)
Is it true that who has a successful blog has an awful lot of time on their hands?
I wouldnt know. I work a full time job and have a blog on the side. I guess you’ll have to ask a successful blogger that
What role can bloggers of the world play to make this world more friendlier and less hostile?
A big one. We voice our opinions about the right thing and let our readers know the problem at hand. Influencing other people’s minds is a big responsibility and one that should be handled with care.
Who are your top five favourite bloggers?
They’re too many to mention. One of them is Dooce. (
http://dooce.com)
Is there one observation or column or post that has gotten the most powerful reaction from people?
I’d once written a post against stopping immigrations from entering my state. That turned out to be a huge debate and took days to conclude. Thats the closest I’ve come to writing a political post.
What is your perception about Pakistan and its people?
I want to visit Pakistan one day and meet people there. I would like to travel your country since I do not know much about it. I’m definitely going to add it to my list of places to visit in the future for sure.
Have you ever become stunned by the uniqueness of any blogger?
Not really. I envy a lot of bloggers and wish I could write like them but we’ve all got our own style of writing and that what makes us different and unique from each other.
What is the most striking difference between a developed country and a developing country?
Its in the way people take care of their country and their countrymen. I see people in developed countries caring for their environment, for the people around them and it strikes me as being surreal. We, those of us living in developing countries can take a leaf out of their page and adopt all these good characteristics for our own benefit.
What is the future of blogging?
Nowadays, everyone can blog! We all can each make our voices heard. Out in the open, anonymously, its our own choice. I think its exciting to think about the future of blogging because being in a democratic country, we have every right to voice our opinions and say what we feel.
You have also got a blogging life, how has it directly affected both your personal and professional life?
It doesnt. I’m the same person in both lives so it doesnt really affect me. Yes, sometimes I do spend a little more time blogging than usual. When I’m at home, it means I burn the dinner at times! Sometimes my friends dont really like what I have to say but that works both ways so we all know not to take it too seriously.
What are your future plans?
As in blogging? I hope to continue doing that I like for a long time to come. Writing wise, I’d like to write a book some day. God willing and if I have enough things to write about, both.
Any Message you want to give to the readers of The Pakistani Spectator?
Yes, thank you for reading my interview. This is the first time I’ve done something like this and I think it is a great honour so thank you once again. I am new to Pakistani Spectator but will be looking forward to reading more about in the future.
